Heart Connections
Maine Snowshoeing Adventure, Feb. 2013
Maine is full of adventure--and the perfect place for adventurous women to meet!
Follow your hearts to the mountains of Western Maine in February, the month of the heart! The mountains and lakes region is absolutely beautiful in any season but holds a special magic when it is blanketed with snow.
We stay at a lovely country B & B, the Star Barn, surrounded by acres of forests and mountains. Snowshoe trails start outside the back door and meander uphill and through the woods. Part of this trail system is named the Fly Rod Crosby Trail--after the very first Maine Guide--Fly Rod Crosby--a woman!! Cornelia Crosby became the first certified Maine Guide in 1897--she canoed, snowshoed, hiked, hunted and fished, and did it all wearing a long dress--love it!
In the spirit of Fly Rod, you’ll strap on your snowshoes and head into the snowy woods where the wind whispers through the trees and moose tracks abound. Fly Rod embarked on her adventurous journey because she was suffering from numerous health problems while working at a bank. Her doctor told her she needed to quit that job and get outdoors--it worked! Following Fly Rod's example, Heart Connections will have an overall wellness focus--discovering wellness through adventure--a few examples:
- Outdoor adventure balanced with the stretching, soothing, meditative quality of yoga. Ginni Robie, innkeeper, is a certified yoga instructor and teaches in the B & B’s full-size yoga studio.
- Healthful, delicious cuisine with locally-grown ingredients
- Stretching your limits within a safe, secure environment--self discovery and empowerment
- Learning take-home tips for stress-management, including easy-to-do meditations
The B & B is "full service" with a dining room, recreation area, parlor with fireplace and a private bath for each bedroom--plus incredible views from every window.
I want my adventuring women to leave their busy lives behind for a short while. To help you do just that, once you step off the plane, everything is taken care of for you. The package includes:
- Picking you up and returning you to Portland International Airport and driving you to the B & B with a stop at a well-known Maine restaurant for lunch* (depending on arrival time)
- Providing snowshoeing equipment and instruction
- If you live in the Columbus area: hauling luggage for you (as space permits)
- Inviting you to my clinic: "How Women Can Stay Warm in the Outdoors in Winter"
- Providing "Patty's Welcome to Maine Wine & Cheese Party" the first evening
- Dining at a historic Maine hunting/fishing lodge--Loon Lodge
- And more!
Please give me a call or send an email and I’ll answer any questions you may have.
